Tadelakt: Decorating with lime
The product
We are introducing Tadelakt for the first time to the USA, a revolutionary wall treatment that is presently enjoying a great appeal in both Europe and Canada. Tadelakt is an admixture of lime, water and mineral aggregates.

History
Used in the form of a lime coating to protect exterior masonry walls throughout medieval Europe, this application was discontinued with the advent of cement.
In Morocco however, its use for interior spaces especially in public baths - hammams - continued for centuries. As it gained in popularity in Morocco some architects and designers re-introduced it back to Europe, limiting its use to wet areas such as kitchens and bathrooms.
Colors
The color palette in Tadelakt comes in a warm tonality (shades of ocher and sienna) derived naturally from lime, sand and marble; the cold tonality (shades of blues and greens) is obtained through the addition of other pigments. In either case, the depth and the luster of the color is unmatched by any type of wall finish on the market.
Plasticity
Another aspect of Tadelakt is the smooth leathery surface of the old ceramic tile and the charm of its micro-fissures without the visual distraction of joints. The plasticity of the material offers a range of application never imagined before. Think of a free form kitchen counter, a lavatory, a shower stall or even a bathtub of your own design!
